What You’ve Always Wanted To Read

I’ve recently started thinking of a new way to write my books – not thinking about what type of stories will hit shelves best, but what type of story I would love to read. I tested this method a few times over with my buddies, and it seems to work pretty effectively.

So, my advice is to ask yourself this: imagine the times when you’re walking through the library, looking for the perfect book (and if you’re anything like me, you have an ideal mental image of the book you seek) and base your story off of that very moment. What book where you looking for? What would interest you about it? What would make you want to read it from the second you pulled it from the shelf?

So, there’s my two cents for this post! I hope it was helpful!

  1. Hi Joseph. I agree with your approach and this is pretty much how I write- I write what I would like to read. I don’t really pay attention to what sells or try to write what I think will sell. I have a purpose for my writing beyond just being creative and trying to get likes and subscribers. I am not against having subscribers or readers of course, but I have no interest in writing posts on my blog to try to get enough readers to start allowing advertising and to make money. I wouldn’t allow ads even if I had a million suscribers. I think I tend to do my best writing when I stay focused and write something I would want to read. God bless you.
